Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can you really learn English on Skype?

Yes! And I’d even venture to say it is more effective than many traditional methods. Skype allows for one-on-one lessons with a native English speaker, it allows you the flexibility to fit classes into your busy schedule, and it is usually cheaper than other classes.

Q: What experience do you have teaching English?

In college I started working with Brazilian immigrants to improve their English, focusing especially on pronunciation correction. After becoming TESOL certified by the SIT Graduate Institute I accepted a job as a Language Assistant in Carmona, Spain. I worked part-time with children ages ten through eighteen to improve their communication skills. I also taught private classes from my home in Seville, Spain to both children and adults.

Q: What will I learn in your classes?

My classes are completely student centered, so when you make your appointment you tell me what you want to practice. I might make suggestions, but, ultimately, the choice is yours.

Q: What are some examples of different classes?

My classes vary—we’ll never be bored! Examples of some of my previous classes’ focuses are: general conversation, pronunciation correction, topic specific conversation (current events, food and wine, American traditions, world travel, etc.), grammar points (first conditionals, comparative adjectives, etc.), business English, American slang…

Q: Why aren’t you available when I want a class?

Unfortunately I can’t always be available for classes. I’m usually running on Central European Time (CET) so do keep that in mind. If you have a special request you can always send me an email, but I can’t make any guarantees!

Q: Will I have homework?

Homework is voluntary but definitely recommended. Even a simple assignment can allow you to progress faster. If I do assign you homework it is something useful… busy work is never assigned.

Q: How do I book a class?

Booking your class is easy. Just choose your time slot from the calendar and ????

Q: What is your cancellation policy?

All cancellations should be made by email. If you cancel more than 24 hours in advance you are entitled to reschedule your class at any available time. Cancellations made with less than 24-hour notice are not entitled to a make-up class.

Q: What do I need to start?

  • Access to a computer with Skype installed
  • Your own free Skype account
  • A good internet connection
  • A headset (necessary) and a web cam (optional)
  • A PayPal account to book your classes

Q: What level of English do I need to have?

To make the most of our classes I recommend that students have at least a pre-intermediate level to begin. However, I do offer beginners classes to native Spanish speakers as I fluently speak Spanish.
